From CV to Full-Time Job in Just Six Days

Every now and then, something happens that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.

Recently, I helped a young jobseeker who was looking for that all-important first full-time opportunity.

Like so many people starting out, the ability and enthusiasm were there. The difficult bit was knowing how to show it.

It started with the CV

We sat down and worked through the CV together.

Not to fill it with corporate buzzwords or try to make them sound like somebody they weren't, but to bring out the things that mattered.

We looked at their skills, strengths and experiences and talked about what an employer might want to know. Sometimes you just need another pair of eyes to spot the things you don't realise are worth shouting about.

Once the CV was ready, I decided we needed to go one step further.

So, we put it out there

I created a social media post about them and asked my network to help.

And this is where the magic really happened.

Within one day, people were sharing the post, tagging vacancies, suggesting opportunities and making introductions.

Before long, there were two interviews lined up.

And then, just six days after the original post, came the news I'd been hoping for:

They'd secured their first full-time job. ❤️

Even better, the opportunity came from somebody who had seen the post and reached out with a job they thought would be a good fit.

That's the power of a network in action.

But let's get one thing straight...

I may have helped with the CV. I may have written the post, and I may have given a little nudge and some encouragement along the way.

But they did the rest.

They listened. They took advice. They were willing to put themselves out there. They followed up opportunities and went to those interviews.

And they got the job.

I couldn't be happier for them.

Sometimes people just need someone in their corner

Their lovely review afterwards genuinely made my day.

But it also got me thinking.

Finding your first job can be incredibly tough. You can send CV after CV and hear absolutely nothing back. And when you're just starting out, it's difficult to demonstrate experience when nobody has given you the opportunity to gain that experience yet.

That's where I think we can all do a little more.

Maybe it's looking over someone's CV.

Maybe it's sharing their LinkedIn post.

Maybe it's tagging them in a vacancy.

Maybe it's making an introduction.

Or maybe it's simply telling someone, "You're better than you think. Give it a go."

It doesn't always have to be a huge gesture.

In this case, a CV, a social media post and a brilliant response from the local network helped turn a job search into a full-time job in six days.

Six days! Not bad going, is it?

And for me, that's what supporting people into work should be about.

Not just filling vacancies.

It's about seeing the person behind the CV, giving someone a little confidence when they need it and opening a door where you can.

To everyone who shared the post, tagged opportunities or reached out, thank you. You played a part in this too.

And to my newly employed jobseeker...

Go smash it. I can't wait to see what you do next. ❤️
